I will be playing records TWICE next week with Mr. Mason Butler: Wednesday (7 Dec) night at Palmer's Bar we will be going back to back for a set inspired by the late David Mancuso - well, really, they all are, but for my part I'll be moving a little closer to the year I was born than usual - and then Saturday (10 Dec) we will BOTH be joined by Amanda Moon for a 3-way throwdown where it'll be a matinee of electronic ecstasy at Clubhouse Jäger to benefit Standing Rock. I promise you will NOT want to miss the chance to see me standing like a mannequin behind two turntables and a mixer wearing headphones!  | Maybe three hours of sleep? Somehow made it up. Shower. Hair. Hair. Hair. No way will I make it in by 7. Downstairs, yogurt, scarf, sleeves, raincoat. Managed to not forget anything. By way of reward, my magic iPod shuffled this up as my driving soundtrack and it was JUST what I needed. It might be Wednesday, but tonight I'm definitely gonna pretend it's Saturday night.
(I made it in at 7.06 - only seven hours to go!)

| 17.11.16 05:06 | | DATELINE: UPTOWN - I almost hate to share this with you, but I think it's important and I want you all to be careful. Tonight around 0430 I was dropping off Moon at her apartment after the after party, when I noticed a man coming up on us pretty quickly on foot from behind. He ended up at my driver's side window asking me to roll it down. I asked him what for thinking he wanted money or something, and he said he wanted to kill us. I was really pretty much in disbelief and wanted to learn more, but Moon pretty wisely told me I should drive off immediately and not engage him further. He didn't show any weapons but he was attempting to remove his hoodie (although I have no idea for what purpose) but rather than see if he wanted to try to throw hands and break all my windows, I did drive off after telling him "well, you have a good night now." We did a long lap around Lyndale and I dropped her off at the back door of her building where she entered without incident. I was never in fear for us - whether that was just me being old and stupid or sane and rational, I'm not totally sure. I'm really glad I told Moon to hang on and not leave the car while we waited to see what was up, though. It's just not something you expect that time of night. I guess I should add that he was young and white, if you care about that. I probably also should have taken a photo of him but again, we weren't really prepared for that to happen. Just...I have a few friends in that hood and you don't need ME to say "stay vigilant" but it would kill me if anything happened to you. Love you guys. Good night. |
