10.6.20 08:57 Ian doesn't even USE Facebook!
9.6.20 17:04
Thanks to everybody who dropped me a Facebook status, Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram, LINE, text OR actually tried calling me (but had to leave voicemail, unless you were my parents) to congratulate me on staying alive another year! I spent the entire 24 hours of the 7th in complete isolation... which totally sucked! But it did give me plenty of time to get back to all of you online. I have some photos of some presents but they're on the phone and I'm on the laptop. Normally I'd ask you to make a donation to the Michael J. Fox foundation and help get Parkinson's disease cured but so many better places to share your money have made themselves known over the past two weeks; I hope you've already been generously throwing what you can their way and will continue to do so. OH that reminds me - I think during my recent rash of ... let's call it "enhanced advocacy," I've only seen a grand total of ONE unFriending. I can't even say for sure that it coincides with me saying anything! I'd like to think this speaks as much to the fact that you aren't really surprised about what I've been saying, I'm somehow staying reasonably consistent as an entity over the course of the past ... let's say five years, and you still don't mind being my Friend as a result, even if we disagree. Either that, or Facebook has successfully algorithm'd me out of your life and you're not gonna read THIS either. Either way, quality friending and I'm very thankful to all of you.

I *will* make one tiny birthday request if you're still looking for one to fulfill - every week I play records for an hour for a KFAI web-exclusive show called Dollar Bin. I think you might find it interesting and would love if you'd give it a listen and tell me what you think!

Thank you once again, one and all - I can't wait to flirt all over you in person whenever it turns out we can be together again.

Please keep in mind that NEXT year I'm 50... so please reserve the date now. There'll be SOMETHING. There's GOTTA be.

I love you!

Black lives matter!

Whoa, happy birthday to me! FOX 9 is reporting that nine council members support defunding and replacing the MPD. That's a veto-proof majority. (The mayor has gone back into hiding.)

Allison and I usually grab Uptown birthday freebies but this year there's no chance for Up/Down, moto-i and so forth. I still didn't want to break my string of being with friends during my official yearly rollover so we got together with Danielle and a bit of thunder for a socially distant exchange of gifts and catch-em-up from the past three months (not to mention the past two weeks!) Official scoring now says I have 49 laps complete at 03:35 CEST! #lap50 #hownifty #geminis

I know I say this every four years but there is no finer place to renew your license than the Roseville License Center - especially now that they only take appointments! I sprung for the Enhanced ID but, embarrassingly, had to call my parents as I didn't know the city in which either of them were born and apparently that's important for one of the forms.
4.6.20 15:02 Jamez and friends are sharing some music tonight. Jamez is my #1 selector AND NEVER plays online, so this is a real treat! Be ready to donate if you are able and I'll see you in the Twitch chat!

Good morning! Not only has Facebook decided to show me your statuses from LAST WEEK, they also decided I'd be interested in this ad. I mean, they did get me to show it to you, but that's more for the picture of the kid...

30.5.20 17:42 Gotta say SOMETHING.

I took a drive to Roseville and Maplewood to do a really unimportant Amazon return and grab some supplies. I saw some national guard vehicles coming the other way on 280, but only a few. On my way back I diverted to Uptown to help move some friends to safer spaces. We took Hennepin down past Lake and marveled at the plywood, but were relieved to see that everything had also been cleaned up by so many good neighbours. Just so I could see it for myself, I took the slow way home from Uptown and went back up Lyndale towards 35W. You could call it the plywood district now. I hated to laugh at the ALREADY BEEN ROBBED graffiti but it was all I could do. As I got closer to my home, I don't know *why* I was surprised, but I still was surprised to see plywood all over Stadium Village as if a hurricane was coming. The Fresh Thyme was boarded up AND closed. Same with the Speedway. Then, I was surprised by what WASN'T boarded up. I'm still far enough off University that I feel relatively safe, but if somehow houses start becoming targets, who can say? I remain ready to drop everything and run to Cedar & Riverside but I think there will already be enough good people there and I won't be needed. If ANY of you feel unsafe, I have no problems sacrificing my nearly 15 year old car to bust you out. Tonight I'm on Messenger, Signal, WhatsApp, LINE, Signal and if you got some other app lemme know and I'll download THAT one too. Let's hope there isn't an invasion tonight but let's be ready if there is. Let's hope there isn't a war tonight but let's be prepared for one. Let's get through this storm. Let's keep our eyes on what's happening in front of us but let's also keep our eyes on what needs to change for a better future. Black lives matter. Keep wearing your masks and washing your hands. I love you all.

I'm too lazy to play my own records tonight so I'm going to let KFAI decide for me. In two hours, a special four hour block of metal will air during the "True Brit!" and "Shadow Planet" slots. I'm already hanging out on the KFAI Discord (https://kfai.org/chat) if you wanna chat - you don't HAVE to listen to the music, but you'll have the chance to! There's a livestream available in the chat. No matter what, have a good night... and "see" you tomorrow.

I've been nominated by Rissy Bird to post 10 favorite albums of all time in 10 days, in no particular order. Guidelines are only the albums that have deeply impacted me. Only the cover with no explanation and to nominate a friend to do the same every day.

I break chains, baby, but nominate yourself if you somehow haven't done this already. This is my second time around so without completely violating the "no explanation" rules, I'll just say this set of ten has deeply impacted me in a slightly different way. (10 of 10)

Watched the mayor's presser just now - I'm glad he asked why the murder cop isn't in jail. I wish he'd been a little stronger in talking about the accomplices-to-murder cops. I also wish he'd been slightly less deferential to the police regarding their overreaction to the protests last night, so as to prevent any recurrence of overreaction to future protest. I doubt his comments will lower the potential for future protest. I'm sure now isn't the time to make a comment like this, but I think I'd like to run for mayor again next year.

I don't think there was a pool, but if there WAS....it took until today for ol' CRZ to wash his famous hair. That's....not sure exactly? More than 10 weeks, but not 11 weeks. Possibly a record; you'd have to ask Mom to be sure. And I only took the plunge out of the great love and respect I have for Nicole, my hygienist, in her role as my current longest-term relationship...
(I already feel bad she'll have to navigate all the long hairs around my lips, which I washed but didn't clip)
(yes I also can't believe they didn't postpone my dental appointment......no excuses)

ON BRAND: Happy National Vanilla Pissing Day - HEY WAIT AUTOCORRECT
22.5.20 18:34 Holy hell I think I just got stung (TWICE) by a bumblebee. How did a bumblebee even get in my house? I had socks on but felt this stab and then HOT FIRE on my big toe - I didn't see anything, tho. I did a very unappealing shaky shake dance and then felt a second one on the arch under my OTHER foot. More frantic jumping and I finally saw this black BLOB nearby on the kitchen floor. It was a dead bee. I immediately rubbed some benadryl cream on the "injection sites" but MAN that is some sting.

(99% positive I didn't inherit my dad's potentially fatal allergies to this kind of thing, but this'll be a good test - I do have some pill Benadryl on standby and will definitely take some if this still hurts like a mother later)
