78 DAYS TO ELECTION DAY: MAYORAL CANDIDATE #1: GREGG A. IVERSON (DEMOCRATIC-FARMER-LABORER)

There IS a "Gregg A. Iverson" who appears to be from Minneapolis on Facebook, but it ALSO looks like the guy owning that account hasn't updated his wall in 2013. He didn't list a website on his filing. He lives AWFULLY close to the airport, so give him marks for that. It appears he's retired, which may explain how he managed to be the only candidate to file before I did (he was either second in line or took longer than the person who was second in line [two clerks at the Elections Dept] as he had filing #2...I ended up #6).

The Internet says he's 68 and this is his thirteenth run for office - his previous 12 losses came in races for mayor, city council AND US House of Representatives. (I'd still probably vote for him over Keith Ellison and expect I may get that chance in 2014.) Despite all those campaigns, there isn't much on him to research!

I CAN tell you that in his first mayoral run in 1993, he narrowly beat out the "Socialist Workers" candidate 111 to 109 votes...but the other 12 candidates in the race did better, including the sole Libertarian candidate (12th place, 188 votes). I'm shooting for at least 189 votes.

I honestly can't tell you if I'd be a better mayor than this guy or not. I'm going to go on the assumption that I would, though - solely because he's been a declared DFLer for over twenty years and I've declared that we need some more non-DFL representation around here. Am I right or wrong? It's YOUR vote!
