28.8.13 11:37 | 69 DAYS TO ELECTION DAY - MAYORAL CANDIDATE #4: OLE SAVIOR (REPUBLICAN) Oloveuse Scorpio Savior, 63, is a bit of a legend - over the last decades, he's run for practically everything up to and including US President, and apparently, on separate occasions, for both the Democratic and Republican parties. In the 2010 gubernatorial election, after failing in both primaries, he ran as an independent write-in candidate, where the Secretary of State's office reported that he received a total of one vote from Olmsted county....which is weird, because I kinda thought Ole lived in Hennepin county all this time (and perhaps all his life - the Internet says he was born in Minneapolis). He's definitely living in Minneapolis at the time of filing, listing an address in Ventura Village (Phillips) on his filing. Savior had to amend that filing, as his original entry under "website" was a hotmail.com email address. Somebody from Elections probably called him to get that fixed and his website as now listed is definitely a website - looks like a Google Site someone else is administering on his behalf - and, not to criticize, but that photo of the Spoonbridge and Cherry looks WAY off, aspect ratio-wise. The main takeaway from his website is that it looks like he's still running for President despite slapping a big red "Republican Party Candidate for Minneapolis Mayor 2013" on it...unless Minneapolis has some nuclear weapons of which I am not aware. Also, clicking on his "issues" page takes you to a campaign page with "governor" in its URL which appears to have been written in 2009. In fact, its "Google Sites" name is still "olesaviorforgovernor!" While you're visiting the site, be sure NOT to miss his excellent series of collages from his Presidential Campaign (like I said, it gets confusing at times to determine for which office Savior is running at any given time) at https://sites.google.com/site/olesaviorforgovernor/2012-ole-savior-artwork and now we understand why he self-identifies as an artist/poet...although I failed to find his book of Poetry, "World of Everlasting Dreams," for sale anywhere on the Internet. Ole has run for office so many times that people in the know now make "Has Ole Savior filed yet?" jokes - and are then surprised to find out that, yes, he has filed. By the way, he's *already* a declared candidate against Mark Dayton for the 2014 Gubernatorial race, having informed the Secretary of State of his particular fundraising apparatus (which may explain why he's currently a Republican). As he appears to already be looking beyond the local election, I think I have to wonder aloud if perhaps he's not taking his run for mayor as seriously as I'm taking mine! Amazingly, he is the only candidate of The Thirty-five to declare himself a Republican - which may just get him more votes than otherwise he'd normally get. I honestly can't tell you if I'd be a better mayor than this guy or not, but I have a strong feeling that I might be! Am I right or wrong? It's YOUR vote! NEXT TIME: Not much...but I'll try to come up with a good conspiracy theory |
