.@tgnoble Not voting is the absolute worst thing you can do. Please reconsider, no matter who you might end up voting for. #MPLSmayor

@tgnoble But yes, I'd love to slash the budget to as bare bones as would be feasible - city STILL has obligations (police/fire/obvious)

@tgnoble I'd love gov't to get out of marriage completely, but have no problems with gay marriage. You may think that's "pushing," I don't
31.8.13 20:09
.@tgnoble And again, if you're so unhappy with the choices on the ballot...you probably should have filed to run yourself. #MPLSmayor

.@tgnoble Saying "all the candidates on the ballot are the same" is inaccurate + reflects laziness of the commenter...no offense #MPLSmayor

One more link, which answers a question I know many of you have: in Minneapolis, just what the heck does the mayor DO? (Answer: not so much) (MinnPost: With Minneapolis' weak-mayor system, does it really matter who gets elected?)

Courtesy Captain Jack Sparrow's blog, here is a photo of seven of our 35 candidates (none of which Sparrow was kind enough to identify). You gotta love Dan Cohen (left of Sparrow - he's the guy with the cool pirate hat, in case you didn't figure it out) for agreeing to have his photo taken in public with some of these dudes. Bob Carney (who I believe is the man dressed for a funeral second the from right) dutifully invites me - and everybody - to public gatherings every week, but they are inevitably scheduled while I'm working...no offense, but most of these folks don't look like they currently have day jobs...so don't expect to see me down at People's Plaza any time soon. (Photo: "They showed up.")

66 DAYS TO ELECTION DAY - MAYORAL CANDIDATE #5: RAHN V. WORKCUFF (INDEPENDENCE PARTY)

I'm a little behind, so here's a Saturday post to help me catch up.

His original filing listed his party or principle as "Indepence" - it was later amended to "Independence Party" on 8/13, which leads me to surmise that Elections called rather a lot of people on the same day they called me to try to get me to amend MY filing (from "Libertarian" to "Libertarian Party" - I was in Florida and declined, as you may recall). The thing is - if you compare both filing documents, the handwriting looks completely different - yet the signatures, which look EXACTLY the same...look like they were a rubber stamp and not actual autographs, as neither one is too close to the line.

Ah, OK, he appears to be disabled, so other folks are probably helping him out with the filings. There's a TPT interview from 2010 when he ran for governor (with his son for lieutenant governor; he finished last in the IP primary out of five candidates) - this is at least his eleventh campaign - and he is shown in a wheelchair and has difficulty speaking, although he seems in complete control of his mental capacity.

Workcuff, 64, appears to be the only declared IP candidate in the race. (Also, the IP still exists! They still have their giant orange buffalo booth at the State Fair.)

Workcuff lists an apartment in Seward Square as his residency. He has served in the Air Force so he's a veteran. Combine "veteran" with "black" and "disabled" and suddenly I am too scared to make any jokes.

But I WILL offer this - he felt the need to make the cornerstone of his 2008 run for the Hennepin County Soil & Water board his firm belief that marriage should only be between one man and one woman and opposition to same-sex marriages. It would be interesting to find out if his views have changed between then and now.

Unfortunately, he has no website. You might be able to reach him at Gmail. I haven't tried, although I am very tempted to ask what the "V." stands for.

I honestly can't tell you if I'd be a better mayor than this guy or not, but I have a strong feeling that I might be! Am I right or wrong? It's YOUR vote!
