47 DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAY - MAYORAL CANDIDATE #15: BOB "AGAIN" CARNEY (DEMAND TRANSIT REVOLUTION)

The strangely almost-always-tuxedo-clad Bob Carney Jr., 59, is another legendary serial candidate - or in his words, "candidate-journalist" - having run for senator, governor, and probably a few other offices in addition to his 2009 run for mayor, where he received 228 votes and edged out John Charles Wilson for 10th place out of the eleven candidates. One of his other notable results is the 7 write-in votes he received for Lieutentant Governor in the 2010 election. He has historically run as a Republican, but decided to take advantage of the "party or principle" to push his new agenda - radically reworking the Minneapolis transit system. He has a 150+ page eBook on the subject which he will send to anyone who asks...and a few folks who don't ask. (I have a copy in my email box somewhere, for instance.)

What's different about Carney is he flat out says he's not actually interested in taking office and runs only to raise awareness of other issues. It is believed that he may have financed some of the even more fringe-ier candidates in the race by putting up their filing fees and helping them select their three word principle (we'll be getting to them much later); Carney has given himself credit on more than one occasion for getting Captain Jack Sparrow amongst others to file.

He has also taken it upon himself to attempt to organize the entire field of candidates via a series of meetings downtown in People's Plaza (which is actually the Hennepin County Government Center's plaza after an OccupyMN renaming) but these meetings inevitably occur while I'm working my real job. As always, I leave it to you to decide whether I'm doing my campaign a disservice by not taking time off from earning a living to attend these meetings, where the number of candidates - even if you can count them and have fingers left over - inevitably outnumber the number of non-candidates in attendance, at least until they can flag down some any sucker who will stop to listen to a self-identified "Mayoral Council." (Having said that... God bless him, Mr. Cohen almost always manages to attend.)

Every week I ignore a call from Mr. Carney announcing the next meeting. His calls have come later and later in the day as the weeks have gone by - I'm not sure why that is. Maybe he's trying to match my Facebook hours. On his latest call, he responded enthusiastically to my e-democracy editorial, telling me it sounded a lot like something he'd previously written (which he then attached on e-democracy as a reply).

I've personally had a low opinion of Mr. Carney ever since he decided to paint the supporters of Ron Paul with an extraordinarily large brush, in the process accusing them of destroying the Minnesota GOP. You may recall that the Minnesota GOP wasn't exactly the place everyone wanted to be even BEFORE the Ron Paul folks "took over." Sadly, he never got around to finishing his six part expose of Senatorial candidate Kurt Bills and the Ron Paul movement...which is sad, because as a guy who was actually IN the "Ron Paul movement..." I found it incredibly entertaining if totally in conflict with anything resembling actual fact.

I bring this up because it's the latest content on his website, the amusingly named bobagain.com - a website devoted to his 2012 Senatorial run and without ANY of the copious amounts of journalsim he has produced in the 2013 mayoral race. (It appears he's mostly left his mark on the e-democracy forum this time around despite listing the web address on his filing.)

Oh, and his listed residence is in East Harriet.

I honestly can't tell you if I'd be a better mayor than this guy or not, but given that he doesn't actually WANT to be mayor...I have a suspicion I might be! Am I right or wrong? It's YOUR vote!

NEXT: A man who has attended at least one meeting of the "Mayoral Council"

SEVEN WEEKS TO ELECTION DAY - MAYORAL CANDIDATE #14: MERRILL ANDERSON (JOBS & JUSTICE)

Sorry, I'm falling a bit behind. I've been filling out questionnaires for various groups (which hopefully will someday be published somewhere for me to link for YOU!) and...I may have gone back to Candy Crush despite my best efforts to not do that during the campaign.

Anyway, here's Merrill Anderson. He's NOT related to Mark Anderson, who is not to be confused with Mark Andrew...unless I've just confused you with all these dudes with the same initials!

His filing lists a residence in....Excelsior...but that's not a Minneapolis neighborhood; it's a city about 15 miles outside Minneapolis. He's initialed the sentence on the filing that says he promises he will have lived in Minneapolis for 30 days prior to the election, so he's probably moving any day now. Or he's full of it. I can't tell.

According to his Facebook page - which, along with a Twitter account, is all you'll find of him online,* he's a member of the Washburn High class of 1955, which should put him somewhere in his 70s. He kinda Facebooks and tweets like a guy in his 70s as well - perhaps I am glimpsing my own future in about thirty years? This appears to be his first run for office.

*He's claimed to have paid $49 to get a website, which will be available any day now - hopefully he wasn't another one of our fine senior citizens conned out of $49 by a fast talkin' Internet huckster!

That's really all I got. Sorry, folks! He's been to KFAI so there'll be an interview online soon, and hopefully his interviewer asked him how the move from Excelsior to Minneapolis is going and that makes the cut. (Also, why he picked "Jobs & Justice" as his party or political principle.) (And finally, I'll be taping MY interview at KFAI Thursday.)

I honestly can't tell you if I'd be a better mayor than this guy or not, but I have a suspicion I might be! Am I right or wrong? It's YOUR vote!

NEXT: Yep, again
