26.9.15 19:55 Had a suplerative time at Surlyfest. One thing about Surly: they treat their unpaid volunteers right. It barely felt like work! Tomorrow we'll find out if I've built up enough of a base tan this summer to not regret skipping out on sunscreen today...otherwise it's going to be a painful flight. Oh crap, I need to see if there are any window seats left to reserve...

25.9.15 02:35 OK, two statuses coming up - this'll be the wacky one and then there'll be a mushy one after it. I'm throwing myself on the mercy of Facebook's algorithm to decide which one (or both) you get a chance to read.

Coming out of the Lynx playoff win - which felt GREAT - I couldn't help but notice all the leftover pom poms all over the arena. Not entirely sure of my plan, I nonetheless gathered up a baker's dozen to walk to Lee's from the Target Center (after getting lost walking around Target Field, as I usually seem to do). Since I had some time to think about things on that walk, I came up with a pretty good plan to hand them out to complete strangers...which would also force me to attempt to interact with some complete strangers, which is something I'm trying to do a little more. And, you know, they weren't really COMPLETE strangers - probably everybody at Berni's thing tonight was a friend of a friend at worst...well, except for the random Twins fans who had no idea what they'd walked into. (I think they still had fun.)

ANYWAY. Because I've been to all of two Trailer Park Queen shows - one of which actually WASN'T because that's the one Berni missed - I did actually formulate the perfect moment to make sure I'd passed out the pom poms: in time for the extended medley of solos during the bridge of "My Vagina." I may have been taking a leap of faith that that particular track was on the set list...but it seemed like a safe bet as the band's really good at it. (What it is is a parody of "My Sharona" but they extend the solo with a little "Freebird." You probably have to be there to truly appreciate its greatness.)

Despite not having had any liquid courage all night, I still managed to coax ten other folks to pick up a pom pom (having already handed out two earlier in the night to friends) and we were all ready to thrash during the solo. And it was super cool! Berni told me later that she loved it and that it was a bit of a throwback to when she had some cheerleaders performing with the band, spelling out "vagina," of course. I sure hope I have remembered the details of that story correctly.

So, I didn't know where I was going, but I got there in the end, and the plan came together. Also, several women wore pom poms in their boots for the rest of the night, which looked cool. I wasn't wearing boots, so I stuffed mine in my back pocket.
