During high school, I was exposed to some leftover LPs from Beyer High's long defunct radio station, KBHI, which Mr. Walker kept in his classroom for some reason. One of them was "Last Exit" by Traffic, which had a couple live tracks over the magical 7 minute mark, so I was drawn to it, borrowed it, took it home and listened to it way more than a 16 year old kid should have, probably. Anyway, this led to me buying their live "On the Road" CD, which ALSO had a very tiny amount of tracks (6) despite being double-LP length, and here's the king - "Glad/Freedom Rider" took up an entire side. Great album cover, too. In the comments I came across another version taped for video which is a super trip, and let's face it, it's Friday and you're dying to kill half an hour listening to Traffic, right? (If so...that's probably why we're friends and you're actually reading this.)

Video - TRENDING: David Bowie

While I was surely impressing Bonita with my arcane ability to remember that Frankie Goes to Hollywood covered "Suffragette City," I think the one I was TRYING to remember was this far superior cover performed by the by-then-pretty-forgotten-and-forgettable version of Big Audio Dynamite (sorry, Ian). I eventually figured out that the reason I couldn't find the track on the YouTube is, just as it originally appeared on the CD, it was buried as a hidden track and included as part of the extra long "last" track on the disc. So you have to go 4'44" past the ACTUAL title track of this video to hear Mick Jones&co. take on David Bowie. Then, to REALLY pad it out, you can hear six strings to lengthen the track to a round extra five minutes.

Supertramp are so important to me. Isn't this beautiful? Yeah it is. No idea why THIS one isn't on YouTube, but we can work around it. They're not above some long jams themselves, but this isn't even the longest track on the LP. Maybe we'll do "Fool's Overture" later.

#tbt Somehow this photo got 38 Likes on Amy's page when I posted it there Sunday on her birthday, so now I'm going to engage in recycling and blatantly reuse it on my own page as a throwback... although I'm pretty sure it won't fare as well over here. Amy always WAS more popular than me.

We were co-editors of the school paper but "working" during different periods of Mrs. Sundelin's Journalism class - I want to say she was in the sixth period Newspaper class while I was in the seventh period Yearbook class. This photo comes from the yearbook page; I really think I have the original SOMEWHERE, but other than my IDs, not a lot of junior high stuff has surfaced during my recent excavations, so I can't know for sure.

I have more than one embarrassing story about Amy - embarrassing to me, not to her - from my awkward years (which I define as "pretty much from 1983 onward"). Fortunately, I'm at work, so I don't have the time to elaborate. Circa end of 1984.
