13.4.22 04:32 | | I'd say that I'm so tired of having insomnia at 0430 but I'm in no mood to appreciate the irony |
11.4.22 12:25 | | | "Hey CRZ," I hear nobody asking me, "how did tweens learn about prime time television forty years ago?" "Man, am I glad you asked me that," I responded, pulling out my trusty copy of Scholastic Book Services' "TV 82," "written" by Dorothy Scheuer with great help from the PR machinery of the three major networks. I am NOT sure all these shows were appropriate for such a young audience but they had 92 pages to fill and apparently not all of these shows made photos available for reuse. (Some shows, on the other hand, got A LOT of cast profiles. Which show got the most pages? You guessed it - "The Dukes of Hazzard.")
HERE'S THE BIG LIST: p. 1 - The Greatest American Hero (ABC) p. 4 - The Dukes of Hazzard (CBS) p. 16 - Diff'rent Strokes (NBC) p. 22 - The Facts of Life (NBC) p. 28 - M*A*S*H (CBS) p. 38 - Happy Days (ABC) p. 49 - Laverne & Shirley (ABC) p. 54 - The Love Boat (ABC) p. 60 - CHiPs (NBC) p. 67 - GENERAL HOSPITAL's Luke and Laura p. 71 - LITTLE HOUSE's Matt and Pat p. 74 - Three's Company (ABC) p. 79 - THE POWERS OF Peter Barton p. 81 - HILL STREET BLUES's Hill, Renko and Belker p. 87 - SHORT TAKES - included are: One Day at a Time (CBS) Father Murphy (NBC) Code Red (ABC) Code Red again Lewis and Clark (CBS) The Fall Guy (ABC) Mr. Merlin (CBS) Best of the West (ABC) Gimme a Break! (NBC) Simon and Simon (CBS) Maggie (ABC) The Two of Us (CBS) Bret Maverick (NBC) Kids Are People, Too (ABC)
I did NOT buy this book in 1982....actually I have no idea when I bought it, but surely I looked at the $2 Barnes & Noble outlet pricetag, skimmed through it and thought to myself "gosh, I need to buy this so in 2022 I'll have something to share on Facebook."
Finally, if you ever watched even a single episode of "The Powers of Matthew Star," we should definitely hang out more. |

| Geez, four years since I've been to a Timberwolves game! (Also four years since they've been in a playoff game - play-IN game is Tuesday, we'll see if they can get back there) |

| | I've been keeping quiet during my suspension but sometimes momentous shit happens that deserves comment. Good luck, Barb! YOU'LL NEED IT
(Shared from KFAI Weekend on Demand) Congrats I guess ;-) to Barb Abney for rejoining the evil empire and hosting their "request show." How STRANGE that after only one guest hosting stint of THIS program, MPR came running - that's my version of how it happened, at least.
Although... that almost subliminal "hey CRZ, wanna trade?" aside she made back on March 26th now carries an exciting new context none of us knew about at the time...
(Nah, just kidding - I've still got six Saturdays left on my sentence) |

7.4.22 19:57 | | | Today was local vinyl day at the PO Box! First, a long-awaited arrival of my splattered copy of "Ylem" by Sunless (ah shoot, I slept through their Icehouse show, didn't I) - second is the oh so opulent clear double LP from Foam Giant (Flavor Crystals & The Telescopes) which, even though Christian had repeatedly said copies were in the mail, I was still surprised to find mine today. Both of these extremely limited releases still have a very small number of copies available via their Bandcamp pages ("sunlessband" and "flavorcrystals" respectively) or you can just get the digital downloads and get the music without having to figure out where to proudly display the physical versions beyond on your lap for the phone photos |

7.4.22 14:35 | | Speaking of tickets, I DID discover that the ticket I ordered for Alan Parsons Live Project back in May, originally for the State Theatre in September and postponed until two weeks from tonight, never arrived in the mail months ago and I never noticed until now. Fortunately Ticketmaster still has plenty of time to screw me over. ;-)

4.4.22 09:29 | | | Last night I read the copy of "Tuesdays with Morrie" I borrowed from the Little Free Library; this morning Facebook On This Day shared this post from my old friend, dungeon master and BBS SYSOP Andy (aka Tequila Willie) from ten years ago - a photo of a KZiM mixtape I apparently sent to him another 20 years prior to THAT. It included a lot of tracks with special meaning to both us. The professor left us in May 2015 but he still makes me smile several times a year. All of these facts are probably unrelated but one never knows.
Of course, I still have my own copy of this tape but no idea if I have a working cassette player beyond the boom box, so no digitized copy, but you can try to imagine which mixes I would have selected 30 years ago and roll your own. Here's the track listing laser printed onto a piece of paper fashioned as an inlay card:
Side One: Gary Glitter - Rock and Roll (Part 2) Oran "Juice" Jones - The Rain The KLF - What Time Is Love? Big Audio Dynamite II - Rush The Pet Shop Boys - West End Girls The Clash - Rock the Casbah S-Express - Nothing To Lose The Troggs - Wild Thing 808 State - Lift 808 State - In Yer Face James Brown - Grits
Side Two: Mr. Lee - Pump It Up Alexander O'Neal - Criticize PM Dawn - Set Adrift on Memory Bliss ABC - Love Conquers All Queen - We Will Rock You The Trashmen - Surfin' Bird Meat Loaf - Bat Out of Hell Primal Scream - Loaded |

1.4.22 15:40 | | | Well, let's conclude our very narrowly acclaimed Nazi series with anecdote 2366 ("Prisoners") from 1942's Thesaurus of Anecdotes - this one also spanned two separate pages so I have stitched the graphic together very poorly because I am lazy and have lost the will to do anything, really. Thanks for reading! |
