"When are ya gettin' the purple Mtn Dew?"
"sooooon."
"Well, that could mean ANYTHING"

At least I can get a giant Diet Dr Pepper in a giant foam cup for 95¢ out here, I guess...but I probably burned $8 in gasoline for this round trip so it wasn't a net savings...

But also also, every time they scanned something at the register, they played the Sonic "got a ring" noise so that was kinda fun

Checked out the Live Nation "Concert Week" $25 All In deals - sadly, Kraftwerk's Minneapolis show isn't included. Their show in Chicago the next night IS included, just to taunt me.

What I DIDN'T know was that Debbie Gibson happens to be in town the exact same night Kraftwerk is, playing at Le Fillmore, so I scooped a balcony seat for that one instead, why not.

I am passing on a solo excursion to Rod Stewart/Cheap Trick at the X at this time.

Metric IS on the list, but that one is still in presale. I'll try to remember to check back later in the week.

Sometimes you just say to yourself, "ya know, self, it's a night for 360 calories of candy." I'm sorry to say that both of these were pretty disappointing - I didn't really taste either the pretzels OR the potato chips in these cups, so it was really just a giant Reese's peanut butter cup only the peanut butter was extra CRUNCHY. That wasn't too bad, actually, but I wanted a different taste. I would pick the potato chip one again over the pretzel one, but I'm not sure either is worth the terrible zits I'm sure to get from all this peanut butter in the next 48 hours.

Great time tonight! Jamez celebrated a 40th anniversary of DJ'ing by pretty much kicking back and setting me loose on the turntables - I came up with 19 selections for the two hours, none younger than 30 years old and a lot of which I'd been hanging onto since Twin Cities New Wave Day, and of course 100% vinyl. (I also snuck in "Alibis," to a horrified reaction. ;-) ) If you can't read my handwriting - and I'm told it's a challenge - the Spinitron playlist will be linked in the first comment. Eventually this set will be uploaded to KRSM's Mixcloud and I'll give you THAT link, too. Thanks again to Jamez for needing the break and thanks to the surprise listeners who texted and messaged to let me know they were tuning in live! Guess what? Radio's still fun.

2.5.22 17:17 PSA: In other news of tickets I'd forgotten I'd bought months ago, apparently I'm still going to the OMD concert at Le Fillmore on Saturday - did you also forget you have a ticket?
2.5.22 08:36 Surprise! Doin' a little radio tonight as me and a stack of (almost all 1980s) vinyl join Jamez for Same As It Ever Was tonight on 98.9 KRSM - tune in at 7 or stream it live by pressing the big "▶" button at krsmradio dot org!

30.4.22 02:44 Another super amazing Gothess! Gotta give a shout out to my new lawyer Matthew who may or may not remember meeting me (and vice versa) as we hit up Electric Feel 2000's Indie Rock & Pop Party at the VFW later tonight - without getting either of us into trouble with other people later, that was a really fun conversation out on the Mortimer's patio. I'm glad it looked like you still managed to leave with the person you wanted to leave with. ;-)

Hey SECOND shout out to Jason who really wants to purchase and download "Dark Allies" by Light Asylum... if only he could remember the artist and title. I don't blame him! That's a good'un. ;-)

#tbt Was going back through the old photos and found some amazing karaoke superstar video captured by frequent partner in crime (but not karaoke) Yo Ritchie...right up until I was SO amazing he dropped the phone or whatever happened to stop the recording, leaving only a tantalizing memory made all the better by the power of YOUR imagination.

Anyway, while I was not singing DIRECTLY to him, I suppose we can always retcon it.

Just like Grumpy's Downtown did, Andy disappears at the end of the month for European life - I expect I shall miss him more than I miss the City Room but I'm not gonna think about that for a bit.

(circa last call - Friday, July 20, 2018 - or as Andy would say, "late Thursday night")

It's not just ANY ol' Cookies & Cream ice cream, it's OREO..."frozen dairy dessert?" You'd think as the definitive article, it would be the definitive dessert experience, but....I dunno, man, it tastes like every other brand of this ice cream I've ever had - which is exactly what I want, mind you, but it's just strange. Maybe there's too much cookie to call it ice cream? There must be some government-mandated reason. Oh well, it was on sale and the cheapest one in the freezer at Cub. I'm happy tonight. Click through to the photos for other smart remarks.

"ENOUGH ALREADY!" I have heard you cry. "WHEN YOU GONNA TRY THAT MAC & CHEESE ICE CREAM?!" Well, wait no longer! I have cracked it open and here's the deal.

First of all, there's no macaroni in it - talk about false advertising!

From the ingredient list, this appears to be standard Van Leeuwen "French" ice cream (with extra egg yolks!) with the addition of that well known powder from Kraft's blue boxes that alleges to be somewhere in the "cheese" family despite its colour not being a particular shade of orange which generally appears in nature. If you're in an ice cream mood, you can almost trick yourself thanks to the sugar taking over but that cheeeeeeese taste does linger on. And ya know it's not necessarily a BAD combination of flavours once you get over how WEIRD it is. I think I like it more than the pizza one because this is more of a ONE flavour experience whereas pizza was trying to give you three things at once. Keep ice cream simple! BUT. I only ate about three spoonfuls before deciding what I *really* wanted tonight was more cookies 'n' cream. THAT post will follow...

This one is probably worth $4.98 once and I don't know if anybody would need a second purchase.

I've been a very good boy all day - it's time for ice cream! First thing I did was go back to yesterday's wedding cake ice cream, and having reread the label, one word stands out that explains my overall sense from it: FLORAL. I don't eat a whole lotta flowers so it makes sense that I still stuck to nibbles.

NOW. VAN LEEUWEN PIZZA. Let's get one thing out of the way straight away - tomato don't belong in ice cream. And yet....I kept sneaking tastes long after I thought my interest would have waned. This cream cheese ice cream is spiked with mozzarella powder, and I believe the spots of what I believe to be brown sugar is meant to evoke dough. It all ties together in a very strange way that is undoubtedly weird but somehow also works? Thankfully I ended up thinking "ice cream" more than I thought "pizza" which is definitely the correct way for those scales to tip while eating dessert. Definitely worth buying one to sample but I don't know if you'll feel like you'll ever need to go back for a second container.

COMING SOON: The wait will be over and I'll try the Kraft Macaroni & Cheese!

After a surprise announcement of a "comeback concert," messages were sent, calls were made and now on Monday at 9am I'm happy to report that there will NOT be a "Superstar" performance at PNA Hall on July 15th, or hopefully ever. The booking has been cancelled.

Thanks to the management of the PNA Hall for moving so quickly (on Easter weekend, even) after learning that a third party had booked their venue on his behalf and cancelling the show. They clearly had no desire to be known as "the venue for predators!" and why would they? I hope folks in charge of other potential sites contacted for any future "comebacks" will take note, be on guard and also not provide their spaces for him - unless of course they welcome that "home for predators!" label.

Thanks also to Grant Mayland with Dark Energy who was very helpful and in close communication with me and other concerned folks while the facts were being gathered. He put in work despite being on the road at the time and I'm very grateful he was able to quickly amplify the concerns of the larger community to a receptive PNA Hall management. Dark Energy have consistently shown commitment to creating safe spaces for six years plus and always welcome everybody... except sexual abusers. Meet me at their future events!

Team Tillmann have engaged in some low tactics and attacked messengers AND survivors for over a year now, especially very recently on Twitter, and now we know why - a pretty weaksauce attempt to "clear the decks" on social media so that the eventual concert announcement (and later claim/brag about how fast tickets were selling) would only receive positive reaction without any clap back. It didn't work. And now, there isn't even a show.

The truth continues to be told, especially when nothing has changed. Minneapolis doesn't forget.

I hope this episode also helps serve notice to anyone else who has thoughts of working with this known predator and sexual abuser, thinking it might suddenly be the right time to get in on what another friend of mine called his "Louis CK route" - including whoever decided they'd accept the challenge of getting a booking on his behalf in the first place. If anybody has the name and would like to throw THAT person under the proverbial bus, I know a few people who'd like to drive it over them.

Keep believing survivors.

(This post is mine and mine alone, so please direct all hate mail and lawsuits directly to me. I didn't ask anybody's permission before posting these words but DID agree to wait until the cancellation was underway before talking about it publicly.)

OK! Let's start our way through these really expensive weird Van Leeuwen - I can't even say "pints" because they're a shrinkflated 14 ounces for $4.98. I wasn't SUPER interested in this one but Lisa expressed enough interest so what the hell - I kinda needed a "control" container to ease me in anyway. According to the label, this is a cream cheese ice cream enhanced by lemon sponge cake pieces with elderflower icing. I'm not TOTALLY sure what elderflower tastes like, but this was okay. I actually liked the ice cream a lot, the cake pieces were okay but not as good, the icing was good and I'm still not sure how to describe what elderflower tastes like. Best part was after a few spoonfuls I was satisfied and put an almost full container back in the freezer, as opposed to eating somewhere between half and the entire thing like I usually do with the ol' Ben & Jerry's kitchen sink pint.

COMING SOON: Pizza!
COMING SOON: Kraft Macaroni and Cheese!

After many of you encouraged me to pick up a bag, and as Jesus himself wrote in the Bible, there is no more proper celebration of His resurrection on this fine snowy Sunday than taking in the NASCAR dirt race while enjoying a bag of Lime & Jalapeño Ruffles Presented By Noted Non-NBA Playoff Participant (And Los Angeles Laker) Anthony Davis.

You taste the lime! You taste the jalapeño! What more could you ask? I think these are fine flavours but I'm not sure it's a proper POTATO chip flavour. I am a big fan of the jalapeño Fritos Scoops (and now want to squirt a lime on them) and of course tortilla chips intro'd this varietal to the masses, but potato? Might need a sour cream based dip to truly complete the experience, but I didn't plan that far ahead. Still and all in all... another fine Ruffle from the NBA expert snack designers.

Happy Easter! That means it's been close to a year since I won a gift box from Peeps x Pepsi so finally time to crack one open and try it out. It's DEFINITELY got a marshmallow scent and an added flavour to it - dunno if it's GOOD or if I'd wish the can was bigger than 7.5 ounces. On my first sip I was like "hey better than Pepsi!" and by the end of the glass I was like "I wonder if I'll ever open the other two cans and if these still go for millions of dollars on the eBay." Now to find some stale Peeps for the true holiday experience...

The Little Free Library came through once again with this copy of "Soul on Ice," apparently belonging to someone in my neighbourhood called "Sher Halstead" for right around exactly 50 years before Sher (or Sher's heirs) dropped it off for me to pick up. I didn't know what to expect, and I gotta tell ya......a lot of it wouldn't pass muster in 2022 - a lot of the writings are framed in a very binary way and the stuff that isn't outright homophobic is merely pretty misogynistic. I didn't have a whole lot of context going in; in high school we were assigned Alex Haley's Biography of Malcolm X so I had a LITTLE background about who was where at what time at least in regards to the Malcolm X/Elijah Muhammad stuff, but other than recognising his name I didn't know a whole lot about Cleaver. Learning a little more about his life after finishing the book....more yikes and yeah I probably won't seek out his other books, but I'm still glad to have had the chance to read thi!
s one. There ARE three really incredible, beautiful love letters snuck into ten pages in the middle of the book which say some things so well that I would love to read them out loud one day to a future like-minded partner or potential partner, but even that starts to feel a little cringe-y after you filter it through the lens of the rest of his writings and oft-repeated opinions on in the book. So....I dunno. I probably learned SOMETHING. Was it "be very careful with your book reviews?" That's up to y'all, I suppose.
