New Tinder profile photo just dropped and I have never looked sexier
1.2.23 13:24 Fired up FBPurity for grins and it popped up a notice with about a dozen folks no longer on my Friend list. Most just deactivated their Facebook completely - I'll miss 'em. A couple deactivated their Facebook and frankly, they probably needed to do it years ago and I'm relieved. A couple I can kinda see removing me because I probably remind them of other folks they no longer want reminders of, which is a bummer for me personally but I get it. For a couple, I have no idea and as much as I'd like to follow up with them to determine exactly which food item and/or piece of self-promotion and/or hot political take pushed them over the edge to remove me from their Facebook lives, I will probably just have to live with never knowing. And I may have tried to refriend a couple because sometimes I'm still stubborn like that.

Bummmmmmer. Volunteering for Northern Spark every June was something I really loved doing for a lotta years and I so cherish the resulting collection of ugly, ugly T-shirts.

(Shared from Northern Lights.mn)
Dear friends, we have some important news. After 15 years and 851 projects, we have made the difficult decision to sunset Northern Lights.mn. We are not in a fiscal or leadership crisis, but the current economy prevents us from fulfilling our mission and vision with integrity. We are so grateful to everyone that has been part of our work over the years.

Sometimes you encounter a series of words and are like "does ANYBODY need this?" but you buy and try anyway because you BELIEVE in PepsiCo's Frito-Lay company and if anybody's gonna innovate in the ranch arena, it's the original Cool Ranch ranchers.

So these had more vinegar or something? They were fine. I'm sure I'll never seen them again.

Great times with KFAI Vinyl Voices at Dusty's! Today I went back to my albums and packed a crate of "I can't believe I still own - or ever owned - this stuff" instead of my usual batch of 12" singles. (There were still some 12" singles.) After starting with my recent trend of going fully pop, somehow Miguel and I settled into a battle of smooth yacht rock sets, which is not where I thought the night would go and yet...it was definitely all in the crate. We ended up with a pretty nice size crowd, some of whom tried to line dance to everything for some reason, a couple very enthusiastic folks who knew all the words, and overall a very open-minded crew of generous tippers - I can afford another Harry Styles album maybe! We traded off with half hour sets and then lingered on pretty far after 1. Sorry, as usual I only wrote down my spins but here they are..

SET ONE - INTRODUCING
Beastie Boys - Shake Your Rump
Cover Girls - Show Me (Florida Mix)
Yard Act - 100% Endurance
Daryl Hall & John Oates - Private Eyes
Joe Jackson - Look Sharp!
Debbie Harry - French Kissin
The Danse Society - Say It Again (Extended Dance Mix)

SET TWO - THE SMOOTH-OFF: VERSION CRZ
The Doobie Brothers - What a Fool Believes
Christopher Cross - Ride Like the Wind
Herb Alpert - Rise
Kool & The Gang - Misled
Supertramp - Take the Long Way Home
Peter Frampton - Show Me The Way

SET THREE - ANYTHING WENT
The Pointer Sisters - Pinball Number Count (DJ Food Re-Edit)
Harry Styles - As It Was (yes I finally played it)

Eddie Money - Two Tickets to Paradise
Sheila E. - Too Sexy
Kraftwerk - Musique Non Stop
Michael Gray - The Weekend (Radio Mix)
Michael McDonald - Sweet Freedom (Theme from "Running Scared") (Freedom Mix-Extended Club Version) (did not get the full ten minutes, no)

ENCORE - WHATEVER ELSE COULD BE FINAL TRACK OF THE NIGHT
Darude - Sandstorm (Original Mix)
27.1.23 22:11 Hey DJ (it US! until 1:??) (Dusty's Bar - NE MPLS)
27.1.23 14:06 Facebook, worried I'd spent more than 15 minutes not checking in, just offered me another "Top Fan" badge... for the account of one of their serial advertisers I'd been heckling. Of course I accepted!

24.1.23 13:56
More fun with music and MEEEEEEEE just announced!

Friday night, I join Miguel Vargas as we hold down January's installment of the monthly KFAI Vinyl Voices night at Dusty's! We kick off at 10PM and go until question mark. Making good on my promise to randos in September, I will have multiple Harry Styles albums ready in case of emergency request. (And now that I've said that....you might just want to go ahead and go to Gothess at Mort's instead. I understand)

NEXT Tuesday, I slide into a guest slot on air presenting the "New Like Whatever" show while regular curator Michael J. Cyrs takes a week off. I have a pile of new music to share along with whatever they remind me of - they might remind you, too. 8am-10am CST on KFAI FM and org!

(Of course I'll still be on air with my own Weekend show Saturday at 5pm, too. YOU CANNOT ESCAPE)
22.1.23 15:43
Latergram from BOOOM BOX where I did two hours and then a bonus third hour after a late cancellation. Of course I forgot to take a photo of the outside as well as a selfie with the silver twins (I'm just glad I got the memo and wore the gold!) Quite a few people with REAL cameras did try to capture me from outside but I doubt I'll ever see any of those photos...which is probably a relief. It wasn't THAT cold, but it WAS cold.

21.1.23 22:21 Oh hello
21.1.23 00:40 All the stars are out tonight (Dusty's Bar - NE MPLS)
20.1.23 16:40
Five seasons since, zero games attended. (Kris & K-la have tried, but I'm stubborn and often double booked enough to have an excuse to not go, thankfully.) Also, zero playoff series won thanks to countless dumbass moves by multiple GMs and players. I still like Coach so he gets a pass. Good thing THIS is the year they win it all... right? I do not miss funneling money down that hole AT ALL.
19.1.23 10:02 Oh shit I'm waking up early on a Sunday. Thrilled to finally be working the small booth, even if the ice was too thin. Don't tell anybody but this will be my first laptop set! I'm on around 11ish.

Not only did I experience my flat tire six days before my AAA was set to expire with me forgetting to renew, it turns out the tire I busted was bought FOUR days shy of one year ago... meaning I'm JUST under the wire for a 100% FULL WARRANTY replacement! Best flat tire ever? I guess if the universe wanted me to go through that trauma Monday night there must have been an unseen good reason behind it.

(The "best flat tire ever" is not getting a flat tire ever but we've since learned that I am incapable of that platonic ideal)

After a boatload of stress leading up to actually arriving JUST on time, super fun and relaxing to just test the patience of the very forgiving and open-minded Dark Horse staff with another three hours of my bullshit on vinyl - then again, they have to deal with three very different selectors every week, so I'm sure by now there's no problem rolling with the punches. I think I ended up eating something like three pounds of fried chicken and may not need to eat again until Thursday. Thanks a heap to Krista Wax for coming down for moral support and laughs, thanks to the nice person who asked if I could play some Kraftwerk ensuring I snuck in BOTH of my radio themes, thanks to the weird brand new regulars who I never should have said "DJ Slurpee" in front of, no thanks to the Wild for not winning.

Back when they still existed, KTEH would syndicate Canadian TV like "The Newsroom" (not the HBO one) and throw it on Sunday nights before the SciFi block, so somehow I got roped into it. When they dutifully paid rights to rebroadcast "More Tears" once they were out of Newsroom episodes, I watched that too. It's not really a proper sequel but ... well, I guess it DID stick with me. Dunno what compelled me to seek this one out for a binge 24 years later, but it was worth it and it largely holds up. Thanks to that one guy who kept it alive on the 'Tube, no thanks to Kenny F for never giving it a proper DVD/streaming release.

(Shared from More Tears - Ken Finkleman, 1998 TV VHS rip, complete series)
Here is a poor quality TV-to-VHS-to-VHS rip of Ken Finkleman's More Tears as aired on CBC in 1998. All four episodes are in one video. If you just want a t...
