27.1.23 14:06 Facebook, worried I'd spent more than 15 minutes not checking in, just offered me another "Top Fan" badge... for the account of one of their serial advertisers I'd been heckling. Of course I accepted!

More fun with music and MEEEEEEEE just announced!

Friday night, I join Miguel Vargas as we hold down January's installment of the monthly KFAI Vinyl Voices night at Dusty's! We kick off at 10PM and go until question mark. Making good on my promise to randos in September, I will have multiple Harry Styles albums ready in case of emergency request. (And now that I've said that....you might just want to go ahead and go to Gothess at Mort's instead. I understand)

NEXT Tuesday, I slide into a guest slot on air presenting the "New Like Whatever" show while regular curator Michael J. Cyrs takes a week off. I have a pile of new music to share along with whatever they remind me of - they might remind you, too. 8am-10am CST on KFAI FM and org!

(Of course I'll still be on air with my own Weekend show Saturday at 5pm, too. YOU CANNOT ESCAPE)
22.1.23 15:43
Latergram from BOOOM BOX where I did two hours and then a bonus third hour after a late cancellation. Of course I forgot to take a photo of the outside as well as a selfie with the silver twins (I'm just glad I got the memo and wore the gold!) Quite a few people with REAL cameras did try to capture me from outside but I doubt I'll ever see any of those photos...which is probably a relief. It wasn't THAT cold, but it WAS cold.

Five seasons since, zero games attended. (Kris & K-la have tried, but I'm stubborn and often double booked enough to have an excuse to not go, thankfully.) Also, zero playoff series won thanks to countless dumbass moves by multiple GMs and players. I still like Coach so he gets a pass. Good thing THIS is the year they win it all... right? I do not miss funneling money down that hole AT ALL.
19.1.23 10:02 Oh shit I'm waking up early on a Sunday. Thrilled to finally be working the small booth, even if the ice was too thin. Don't tell anybody but this will be my first laptop set! I'm on around 11ish.

Hmmm, the turkeys were up early this morning. Also, why would the turkeys bother walking to my stairs when there is definitely nothing to eat anywhere around my house?

Not only did I experience my flat tire six days before my AAA was set to expire with me forgetting to renew, it turns out the tire I busted was bought FOUR days shy of one year ago... meaning I'm JUST under the wire for a 100% FULL WARRANTY replacement! Best flat tire ever? I guess if the universe wanted me to go through that trauma Monday night there must have been an unseen good reason behind it.

(The "best flat tire ever" is not getting a flat tire ever but we've since learned that I am incapable of that platonic ideal)

After a boatload of stress leading up to actually arriving JUST on time, super fun and relaxing to just test the patience of the very forgiving and open-minded Dark Horse staff with another three hours of my bullshit on vinyl - then again, they have to deal with three very different selectors every week, so I'm sure by now there's no problem rolling with the punches. I think I ended up eating something like three pounds of fried chicken and may not need to eat again until Thursday. Thanks a heap to Krista Wax for coming down for moral support and laughs, thanks to the nice person who asked if I could play some Kraftwerk ensuring I snuck in BOTH of my radio themes, thanks to the weird brand new regulars who I never should have said "DJ Slurpee" in front of, no thanks to the Wild for not winning.

Back when they still existed, KTEH would syndicate Canadian TV like "The Newsroom" (not the HBO one) and throw it on Sunday nights before the SciFi block, so somehow I got roped into it. When they dutifully paid rights to rebroadcast "More Tears" once they were out of Newsroom episodes, I watched that too. It's not really a proper sequel but ... well, I guess it DID stick with me. Dunno what compelled me to seek this one out for a binge 24 years later, but it was worth it and it largely holds up. Thanks to that one guy who kept it alive on the 'Tube, no thanks to Kenny F for never giving it a proper DVD/streaming release.

(Shared from More Tears - Ken Finkleman, 1998 TV VHS rip, complete series)
Here is a poor quality TV-to-VHS-to-VHS rip of Ken Finkleman's More Tears as aired on CBC in 1998. All four episodes are in one video. If you just want a t...

Sometimes when you're snowed in you just start trolling the unfortunate souls and/or AI whose incredibly repetitive and deceptive Facebook ads get algorithm'd into my feed
4.1.23 19:15
• Shoveling: Phase 2 COMPLETE
• May require one more pass at midnight since it started snowing AGAIN while I was outside
• Extremely unofficial snow cover measurement from the back yard: 19½" - I believe about 10" of that is "new"
• I may have pulled a tricep I didn't even know I had getting my cans to the curb - stay tuned
• This AEW TV show is pretty good
• I have earned snacks
• More notes on each individual photo if you crave detail

Almost forgot I bought some wacky ice cream for 2023! This is a pretty subtle one - in fact, I get more "egg nog" than "champagne" from it but that might just be Van Leeuwen's double-the-yolks gimmick. It's still ice cream! It tastes good!

2.1.23 00:31 Man at the Eagles who had the audacity to select all 8:27 of "Life's Been Good" for karaoke (AND dang in the wrong octave, if we're gonna pick nits) also decided telling me "Dude looks like a lady!" was a compliment... but I did decide to TAKE it as a compliment. Of course, he has several pieces of Vikings paraphernalia on....juuuuust sayin'. At least I was pretty for him!

This is hard to tell you. My grandmother, my mother's mother Dorothea Morgan passed away at 2am PST on New Year's Eve. She had taken a severe turn just after Christmas and while this result was inevitable - guess it always is after long enough - it's still somehow a surprise and a shock. She was 94, which as I always say is too young to go, but it was time. She was the eldest and only daughter of six children - having five younger brothers surely honed her sense of humour into the wicked one she carried throughout her life. I believe the youngest brother is still with us but honestly I'm not sure. She grew up in Ocheyedan, Iowa, where her father's house was turned into a museum (which of course has no website, but DOES have a Facebook group: Tracy House Museum), eventually settling down with Grandpa Wayne in Concord, California, where she raised my mother and three other children and worked for the US Postal Service as a letter carrier. Just like her mom, my m!
om is the eldest and the last living sibling (so I guess my kid brother better watch out). She was my last living grandparent. There's probably a whole lot more I should tell you but I've run out of words and even these seem pretty clumsy. Being in Minnesota has insulated me from recent events and having to experience Grandma's last years in person, for better and for worse, so my thoughts definitely turn to the rest of the family and circle of friends who have been up close and know way better than me how things feel and are probably feeling it way more intensely. Mostly, Mom, yes. We'll all grieve differently of course but what's important is that we're still here and can be present for each other as needed - or leave people the hell alone as needed, we're too good at that too. Two photos - mine marks the last time my brother and I and Grandma were all in the same space just before Christmas 2014 which has been my profile pic every Mother's Day since; the other one !
stolen from my aunt Laura, a more recent snap of Grandma, her !
#1 daughter and her #1 daughter-in-law. No flowers, please! If you are so moved, you may make a donation to the charity of your choice and/or visit the Tracy Museum. Meanwhile, tomorrow's another year - we're still here. I love you all!
