DrSonja's Mixed Media Challenge

Post by DrSonja »

I’ve read a variety of descriptions defining mixed media, for my challenge, I am narrowing it down to 5 categories.
Your project must have at least 1 item from each of the 5 categories.

You may use more than one item from a category, if you like, too.

Your project may be a layout, a card, a tag, a journal, a calendar, a décor item, just about anything you can think of.
Most importantly, have fun.

Category 1: BASE --Select the foundation upon which you will build your project.
Cardstock, chipboard, cardboard, Masonite, foam board, canvas, fabric, metal, glass, wood, etc.

Category 2: COLOR --So many ways to bring color to your project.
Ink, paint, chalk, pen, pencil, markers, crayons, mica, mists & sprays, Magicals & Color Burst pigments, etc.

Category 3: TEXTURE --Build some depth and interest with textures
Gesso, stencil butters, drops, pop dots, hot glue, Mod-Podge, texture pastes, molded resin, rice paper, stacked die cuts, frames

Category 4: FIBERS -- I love the flair these items add to a mixed media composition.
Thread, string, baker’s twine, ribbon, yarn, cheesecloth, fabric, burlap, fringe, raffia, net, mesh, lace, etc.

Category 5: EMBELLISHMENTS --So many choices here, don’t forget the sparkle and shine!
Pearls, gems, glitter, sequins, artificial flowers, leaves, enamel dots, puffy stickers, trinkets, charms, frames, alpha stickers, etc.

When you post your creation to the gallery, list the items you used from each of the 5 categories.

The winner will be selected via random drawing from all entries.

The randomly selected Winner will receive this Carmen Medlin stencil bundle generously provided by the Crafter’s Workshop Company.

Great challenge!  Sorry I can't enter with digi, since I can do all of those things with digital and it requires me to use my creative skills and not just things that are done for me. :(

You knocked it out of the park with this beauty! What luscious depth and color variety you have achieved. And, your description makes it obvious you had the most important ingredient: FUN! Thanks for playing in my challenge.

Here is mine. I chose a tag as my base. I used acrylic paint, collage paper and Tim Holtz crayons for the colors. For the texture, I used stencil butter. I used fibers for the flower stems and embellishments include brads and a button.

Great challenge, here's mine:
Image

Category 1: BASE --white cardstock
Category 2: COLOR --green ink (lighter colored leaves) and smoke ink (bricks and around the edges)
Category 3: TEXTURE --green lunar paste, darker colored leaves
Category 4: FIBERS --lavender twine on tag
Category 5: EMBELLISHMENTS -wood house, enamel dots, clear drops, stickers

I have a close up in the gallery where you can see that the lighter colored leaves are flat and the dark ones have dimension.

I had so much fun making this tag.  I have so much mixed media stuff and just never pull it out and use it.  Thanks for the nudge.   Here's what I used.

Category 1: BASE -- tag

Category 2: COLOR -- I had just bought some PanPastel chalks at CKC in St. Louis.  I thought, let me try them.  I love how easy they are to use.  I chose the dark purple and really like how it looks on the tag with the black lettering coming through.

Category 3: TEXTURE -- I used (1st time) some Paper Glaze.  I had a jar of soft violet that worked perfect with the chalk color.  I used it with a stencil for depth.  I also layered and popped one of the hearts for more depth.

Category 4: FIBERS -- I added some white fibers to the tag.

Category 5: EMBELLISHMENTS -- I added some enamel dots to the hearts.  Then remembered I had some purple staples and added a few of them for another embellishment.
